At the recent High End audio fair in Munich, Thorens presented a range of costly, high-quality turntables, which were also relatively heavy. However, the Coturn by Thorens CT-01 stood out as a compact and easily portable option. This model features built-in rechargeable batteries and can transmit music signals via Bluetooth to portable speakers, making it a convenient choice for picnics.

The Coturn CT-01 is not entirely new. The original idea of the Coturn CT-01, which we wrote about more than five years ago , was developed by Bonn-based industrial designer Benjamin Großjohann, who then produced it in small series and offered it for sale via his webshop (see https://coturn.de/ ). But now a large company from the turntable industry has taken on this unusual project, and that is the well-known turntable brand Thorens.
The Coturn by Thorens CT-01 also reminds a bit of the Soundburger from Audio-Technica . However, the CT-01 seems to be built much higher quality. For example, the chassis is made of aluminum, while AudioTechnica’s Sound Burger is made of plastic. Well, there must be a difference. The Coturn by Thorens CT-01 is about twice as expensive as the Sound Burger
The Coturn by Thorens CT-01 breaks with its compact and portable form the classic standards of conventional turntables. The housing of the CT-01 is made of robust, CNC-machined and anodized aluminum, which gives the turntable an elegant look. The scratch-resistant armored glass surface and the integrated touch screen set visual accents that underline the stylish design of the CT-01. Each turntable is carefully assembled in Germany and meets the highest quality standards.
Thanks to its powerful rechargeable batteries, the CT-01 allows enthusiasts to enjoy music for up to 16 hours, making it the ideal companion for longer sessions or outdoor events. It can be easily charged via a USB-C cable, which is included. The CT-01 also offers a wide range of connectivity options and is equipped with an integrated phono amplifier and Bluetooth, allowing wireless connection to speakers, headphones or amplifiers. Line-out and headphone outputs provide additional flexibility when connecting other audio devices.
