Rega Research has introduced a new range of Green Grade products. The most recent addition is the Planar 3 Eco Special, a turntable crafted from components that exhibit slight cosmetic flaws. Nevertheless, the Planar 3 Eco Special functions flawlessly and includes the complete manufacturer’s warranty. This approach benefits the environment while providing the customer with a fully operational turntable at a reduced cost.
Rega Green Grade
As a manufacturer, Rega is constantly seeking methods to minimize waste and prevent parts from ending up in landfills. The company takes pride in having a dedicated team focused on remanufacturing or recycling damaged components for many years. Unfortunately, there are always parts with cosmetic flaws that are deemed unsuitable for use in a grade A product. In certain instances, remanufacturing these parts is not cost-effective, leading to their unfortunate disposal in landfills. This is always a last resort; however, as a responsible organization, Rega believes that this practice can no longer be regarded as an acceptable option.
Rega collaborates with 650 suppliers, 85% of whom are based in the UK, and they all share the responsibility of providing quality parts. Nevertheless, due to inadequate packaging, mishandling, or transportation issues, some items may sustain damage. These components are often considered irreparable by Rega’s remanufacturing team.
This is where Rega Green Grade comes into play. Rather than discarding parts with cosmetic imperfections, Rega has opted to utilize these components to create Green Grade Rega products. These products operate and perform flawlessly and are backed by an unparalleled limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. Ideally, all consumers would embrace Green Grade, allowing humanity to cease wasting precious resources and reduce its carbon footprint. “But for now, we hope that these small steps will shift people’s perspectives and lead us all toward a better, less wasteful future,” states Rega regarding its Green Grade offerings.
Rega Planar 3 Eco Special
The latest addition to the Green Grade line is the Planar 3 Eco Special. The distinctions from the standard version are outlined below. Those interested in a Green Grade product should verify availability with their local dealer.
- The builders choose a selection of Planar 3 Aluminum Skin Edition metal skirting boards that show minor imperfections.
- The turntable is compatible with the Neo PSU (not included)
- Other Green Grade components are used as they become available, such as platters, dust covers and tonearms with cosmetic defects.
- The skirting boards for the Eco turntables are NOT screen printed with a P3 logo, so they can be easily recognized as Green Grade.
- Each Eco turntable is supplied with a Rega Eco lid badge.
- Each Eco turntable packaging is provided with a sticker with the Rega Green Grade logo, so that the packaging can be easily identified.
- Each deck is thoroughly tested and must pass the stringent testing that an ‘A’ grade Planar must pass.
- Performance is not affected in any way by this.
- The buyer receives a lifetime warranty on functional defects, but this of course does not apply to cosmetic defects because these are accepted upon purchase, and the purchase price is lower.
- Recommended element: Rega Nd3 (not included).
