Brabus has been deeply tuning the G-Class for many years, and even built extreme versions with portal axles based on the previous generation model. And the current G-Class was transferred to such a chassis by Brabus specialists earlier than Mercedes-Benz itself: a pickup truck on portal axles was presented back in 2020, followed by several similar extended versions. Now the standard five-door G-Class has stood on tiptoe: the Brabus XL 800 monster has been presented, which the developers shamelessly call a supercar and an all-terrain vehicle in one bottle.
The all-terrain vehicle has a branded Widestar body kit made of unpainted carbon fiber, which has significantly widened the wheel arches and sills with motorized steps. On the front there is a new composite paneling, a winch with a force of 4500 kg and a powerful bullbar. A hood with a large air intake is installed. Brabus Monoblock Z/HD wheels have a diameter of 22 inches.
The interior is wrapped in natural perforated gray leather, with double diamond embroidery on the seats, doors and floor mats. Decorative carbon fiber trims adorn the dashboard, central tunnel, door panels and even the pedals. The sun visors, the housing of additional instruments for rear passengers (installed on the ceiling) and door sill trims with brand logos and multi-color lighting are also made of composite.
Under the hood is a Brabus 800 engine, that is, a Mercedes-Benz V8 4.0 biturbo engine modified by specialists from Bottrop. Its main feature is a pair of high-performance turbochargers with larger compressors and reinforced bearings. The engine develops 800 hp at 6,600 rpm and 1,000 Nm at 3,600 rpm, although Brabus has even more extreme tuning options in its portfolio. The nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive transmission are reinforced. The Brabus XL 800 can accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, and the maximum speed is limited to 210 km/h.
Not the most dizzying figures, but we must remember that the XL 800 has a radically redesigned chassis with ground clearance increased to 470 mm! The G-class got a completely new independent front suspension with reinforced levers and final drives. A portal axle is installed at the rear, which, like all the levers, is made of high-strength aluminum with a titanium coating. Electronically controlled Brabus Ride Control shock absorbers are used, the settings of which are selected taking into account the considerable ground clearance.
Orders for the Brabus XL 800 all-terrain vehicles are already open, but the price is not announced. Even the starting price, although traditionally the widest possibilities for individualization allow it to vary in a wide range.
